Get moving this Summer

Free and low cost ideas to help you and your families get active this Summer.

It’s so hard when you’ve booked and paid for activity for the family, but end up missing it (because sometimes getting everyone out of the house on time just doesn’t work out!).

So we’ve compiled a list of free, low cost and flexible activities, which you can try out.

Projekts Skatepark MCR

Greater Manchester

Whether you're into skateboarding, scootering, or just want to try something new —ProjektsMCR has it all.

This summer they also have a holiday club, which is part of the HAF scheme.

Water Adventure Centre

Greater Manchester

The Water Adventure Centre offers free and low cost canoeing and paddleboarding across Greater Manchester, including Chorlton, Tameside and Newton Heath.

BMX Sessions

Greater Manchester

As well as having open gate sessions, the BMX park at Platt Fields holds low cost coaching sessions for children and young people. These include intro level and balance bike sessions to get your kids started.

Junior Parkrun

Nationwide

Find your local Junior Parkrun, which is a free way to get kids involved in running in your area.

Swimming

Nationwide

Manchester provides free swimming for Under 16s during the school holidays in any “Swim for All”  sessions. Many other cities offer similar schemes, or why not cool down in one of the many free paddling pools across the country. Places including Burnley, Bakewell, and Llandudno all have free outdoor splash parks or paddling pools.

Finally, if you are stuck inside during the holidays, the NHS has plenty of indoor movement links and ideas. Plus, nothing beats putting on some music and having a kitchen disco.
