Focus is Powerful

So many of our team are big fans of the performer Self Esteem, and one of her songs ‘Focus is Power’ was a jumping off point for Laura’s poem. It blends the lyrics with Laura’s recent learnings and reflections from her recent Non-Violent Resistance training.

Something crashes to the floor

I feel my heart skip

My tummy turns, will you flip

Brace myself

Take a breathe

'my focus is powerful'

They said parenting is hard

'We're taught to take it in our stride'

If only they knew

How hard my hard is

You storm down

Your face full of frown

I say to myself

'don’t be too loud or too quiet'

'I deserve to be here'

'and now I see it clear'

I can't control your fears

But mine is mine to manage

I stay open and engaged

'my head and heart together'

'before the pushing and the pulling'

No shape-shifting for me

I take a pause and feel some breeze

And as I join you later on

With a cuppa and a bourbon

Requesting solutions to our problem

Judgement floats away

'my focus (and love) is powerful'
